CONFIDENT PARENTING TODAY had its beginnings in conversations with the thousands of parents across the country who came to seminars led by Children and Family Life Specialist Richard Patterson, Jr. These parents had many questions--some felt intimidated by the challenges they faced and had lost the confidence they needed to act decisively as parents on behalf of their children. There were other parents, however, who had, through hard work, prayer and experience, learned how to be confident, successful parents. Passing their wisdom to the many parents who needed and wanted it became the genesis of CONFIDENT PARENTING TODAY.

Richard Patterson,Jr. Children and Family Life Specialist, has worked with children and families for over 25 years. He travels widely, speaking to parents in church and community groups all over the United States. Patterson is the author of Brand-Name Kids: The Loss of Childhood in America (Revell, 1988), It's The Little Things That Count (Thomas Nelson, 1993) and, most recently, Confident Parenting in Challenging Times: Essential Convictions of Highly Successful Parents (Tekna, 1999). His parenting and family life articles have appeared in such magazines as HomeLife, Living With Teenagers, Christian Parenting Today, Moody, The Plain Truth, Discipleship Journal and others. Richard Patterson,Jr. has been married for 30 years and is the parent of two grown sons.
