When I was a boy the local used car dealer near us advertised with the slogan "We buy the best and junk the rest". That was his way of saying that he could recognize quality when he saw it, benefit from it, and not waste his energies on anything less. That's good advice for parents, too. LEARN TO RECOGNIZE GOOD PARENTING WHEN YOU SEE IT IN YOURSELF AND OTHERS. BENEFIT FROM IT AND PUT ASIDE THE REST.
Of course, most of us learn parenting from modeling after the parenting we've received. That's a good place to start. And if you're parents weren't particularly good models , then look around you. Neighbors, friends, family and church members may offer some good models. Learn from them and build on their examples and advice. Learn from their mistakes as well as your own. Take the best and junk the rest-then move ahead troward yoiur goal of becoming a successful parent.
