We often think of family time or "quality time" as big, extravangant events that consume big chunks of our precious time. Some are. of course, but all needn't be. You can also spend quality time with your children in small doses--even five minutes or so. Look for the five minute parenting possibilities.

For example, spend five minutes telling your children about one of your funniest or most foolish childhood mistakes. Children love to hear about their parents as children--especially when they do something funny!

Another five minute possibility is giving a brief back rub or foot rub to a tired child. They'll enjoy the touch and concentrated attention. Who knows what coversation might take place. You could even spend five minutes in a crazy round of "horsey rides" or wrestling (if it's not too close to bedtime!).

Tell or read a short story for a "break" in the middle of the evening. Begin a board game or puzzle that you work on together for 5 (or maybe even 10) minutes each evening. It will be something fun that you and your children can look forward to each evening and it doesn't have to take a lot of time!

Those are just some ideas "for starters". I'm sure you can think of many more. The point is that these times may be short but they can still be fun and rewarding times for both you and your children. They can make a real difference in your relationship. So go ahead. Begin tonight. Look for some five minute parenting possibilities!
